What’s Brewing in This Episode

What does it mean to belong?

Most of us spend part of our lives searching for the place where we finally fit. We hope to be accepted, understood and welcomed for who we are. Yet belonging is rarely that straightforward. Sometimes the people who understand belonging most deeply are those who have spent years wondering where they fit themselves.

In this conversation, Andrea Putting sits down with Morenike Ogebe, who grew up between African-American and Nigerian cultures, never quite feeling she belonged completely to either. Rather than allowing that experience to divide her, it became the foundation for a life dedicated to helping others find connection across difference.

Together, they explore what happens when we move beyond first impressions, why compassion requires courage, and how genuine curiosity can become the beginning of understanding. It is a conversation about identity, belonging and the quiet work of building bridges between people, one relationship at a time.

Guest Bio

Morenike Ogebe is a speaker, author and bridge builder who is passionate about helping people connect across cultural, racial and social differences. Drawing on her own experience of growing up between African-American and Nigerian cultures, she encourages individuals, communities and organisations to move beyond assumptions and create spaces where people feel seen, heard and valued.

Her work is grounded in the belief that understanding grows through genuine conversation and that lasting change begins when we choose curiosity over judgement.

Brew the Change

This week’s Brew the Change is an invitation to notice where you feel most comfortable and where you instinctively pull back.

Perhaps it is a conversation. Perhaps it is a person. Perhaps it is someone whose experiences, beliefs or background feel unfamiliar to you.

Instead of stepping away, stay a little longer. Ask one more question. Listen without preparing your response. You don’t have to agree and you don’t have to change who you are. Simply choose to move towards the conversation rather than away from it, because that is often where understanding begins and where bridges are built.
