What’s Brewing in This Episode
Most of us have opinions about things that happen somewhere else.
Then one day they don’t happen somewhere else anymore.
They become part of our family, our friendships, or our community, and we find ourselves looking at them differently.
In this conversation, Andrea Putting sits down with Jo Connolly to explore identity, belonging, family, and the assumptions we often carry about people whose experiences are different from our own.
Through her marriage to Michael and the family they have built together, Jo shares how love, family, and proximity can challenge what we think we know and open the door to a deeper understanding of culture, history, and community.
At its heart, this conversation asks a simple question:
What changes when the story comes home?
Guest Bio
Jo Connolly lives in Queensland, Australia, and has spent many years navigating life as part of a family that brings together Aboriginal and Irish heritage.
Through her marriage to Michael and the family they have built together, she has experienced firsthand the complexities of identity, belonging, cultural understanding, and the assumptions people often make about others.
Jo brings a thoughtful and deeply personal perspective to conversations about family, community, and what becomes possible when people take the time to move beyond labels and truly get to know one another.
Brew the Change Challenge
This week’s Brew the Change challenge is to learn something about another culture and, for a little while, try to see the world through somebody else’s eyes.
That might mean attending a community event, reading a book, visiting an exhibition, or simply having a conversation with someone whose experience is different from your own.
The goal is not to become an expert.
The goal is to become curious.
Understanding begins when we are willing to listen.
